Millions of pounds could be saved on mobile phone bills following the introduction of a scheme that could cut 41% off mobile phone costs.

Accountancy firm, BDO Stoy Hayward, announced the scheme, which is possible under the 1999 Finance Act. It allows employees to buy a handset and pay their bill out of their gross salary, giving them tax relief on their mobile phone costs. The reduction in gross annual salary means that employers can benefit through lower national insurance payments.

Those taking part in the scheme can use any handset and network. They can buy up to five phones as long as they are for personal use or that of their household or family.

The scheme, a joint venture with Isis Telecommunications, is currently open to large organisations, but a scheme for SMEs is due to be rolled out next year. For more information and to register an interest, telephone 0845 408 2035 or email info@flexphone.co.uk.
