Cancer Research UK to launch mobile phone scheme
Cancer Research UK is to offer employees a tax-efficient mobile phone scheme to offer savings both to employees and itself.
Mobile Salary Saver from Flexphone will be launched in July, offering all 3,700 employees up to 41pc off the cost of a mobile phone, accessories and line rental with Vodafone.
The existing benefits package currently offers rewards and benefits under the strap line ‘It all adds up’. Recognising the potential for savings to add up for their employees and their organisation, Cancer Research UK will offer Mobile Salary Saver at quarterly intervals throughout the year.
Director of strategic resourcing and reward Tom Russell, said: “We wanted to enhance our existing benefits offering to provide wider appeal and opportunity for greater savings for employees.” He added that the ease and simplicity of implementing Mobile Salary Saver had a great impact on the decision to go ahead.
Employees can choose either pay monthly or pay as you talk price plans on the Vodafone network and typical savings include the Vodafone Anytime 500 package, which costs £35 on the high street and just £23.45 for a basic rate tax payer through the Mobile Salary Saver scheme. A colleague in the higher rate tax band pays only £20.65 - savings of nearly £140 and £172 a year respectively. The organisation also saves up to 12.8pc on their National Insurance contributions. On the above example this equates to £53.76 per year per phone.
Russell and his team have their own secure access to an administrator website to approve each employee’s participation in the scheme. Once approved, Flexphone handle all pre and post ordering activity at no cost, ensuring all paperwork is received from each participating employee, orders are reconciled and that there is a seamless integration with Cancer Research UK’s payroll system.
Post order fulfilment areas such as leavers or debt management are covered in advance and all managed by Flexphone.
